Mobilisation and awareness raising on Blue Hat Bow Tie Colon for Colorectal Cancer with the main aim of promoting early Colorectal cancer screening, treatment and bring stakeholders together to fight against Colorectal cancer. This was supported by Global Colon Cancer Association, (GCCA).
Project on reducing the burden of NCDs (2024-2027) by advocating for policy changes, improving access to services, and raising awareness about the importance of addressing NCDs as a public health priority with funding from World Diabetes Foundation (WDF) through Partners in Health (PIH)/Abwenzi Pa Za Umoyo with technical support from the Government of Malawi/(Ministry of Health).
The NCD Advocacy Institute Accelerator Track project aimed to accelerate advocacy efforts for impactful policy changes that enhance access to NCD care and financing. Further to strengthen collaboration of civil society organizations, community-based organizations working in the area of HIV/AIDs, NCDs, maternal and sexual reproductive health to establish a platform for engagement with policy makers. This project is supported with a grant from the Global NCDs Alliance (NCDA) in partnership with Leona B. and Harry M. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
With the support of and in partnership with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), WOCACA is implementing a one-year project (2024-2025) titled “Advocating for Cervical Cancer Elimination through Knowledge Dissemination and Screening Services.” This advocacy project seeks to support CHAI’s efforts to contribute to the reduction of cervical cancer prevalence in Malawi through its studies on human papillomavirus (HPV) screening for cervical cancer.
Project under Colon Cancer Equity Grant conducting needs assessment of colorectal cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care support using a scorecard to evaluate program effectiveness and accessibility with funding from Global Colon Cancer Association. (GCCA)

CONTINUED PLANNED ACTIVITIES

WOCACA remains committed to building on its achievements and sustaining its impact through the following planned activities;

Continued mobilization, awareness building, and sensitization on cancers and other NCDs (Non-Communicable Diseases), such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and other cancers, targeting women, girls, their families, and communities.

Facilitating cervical cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer screening and treatment in collaboration with district hospitals and health centers to ensure accessible services for rural communities.

Engaging selected primary and secondary schools in impact districts to educate students on cervical cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), and other NCDs, promoting a culture of early prevention and awareness.

mpowering communities by training leaders including traditional, religious, and community based leaders to serve as advocates and gatekeepers of knowledge on cervical cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and other cancers and NCDs.

Raising awareness on the link between alcohol consumption and cancer, including advocating for health warnings on alcohol bottles and containers to inform the public of specific cancer risks associated with alcohol use.

Continued advocacy against tobacco smoking, highlighting its association with various cancers and NCDs, and pushing for stronger tobacco control measures to protect public health

Integrating health outreach programs on cancer and HIV/AIDS for women and girls, focusing on raising awareness, offering screening, and providing education on the dual risks of cancer (especially cervical and breast cancer) and HIV/AIDS among high-risk communities.

Delivering targeted cancer prevention and care for key populations including female sex workers, women who use drugs, and women living with HIV by addressing their unique risks and ensuring equitable access to screening and treatment.

Advocating for increased financing for Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) programs, ensuring that NCDs are recognized as a public health priority at local, national, and international levels.

Promoting equitable access to essential medicines, with continued and sustained advocacy to reduce barriers to life-saving treatments for cancer and other NCDs.

Providing ongoing patient advocacy, care, and support services to improve the quality of life for women and girls affected by cancer and NCDs.

Strengthening partnerships, networks, and collaborations with like-minded organizations, promoting innovative approaches to cancer prevention and control while amplifying the impact of WOCACA’s work.

Promote the integration of cancer prevention, treatment, and care into human rights and GBV frameworks by advocating for equitable healthcare access, combating stigma and discrimination, and empowering GBV survivors to seek timely treatment as a fundamental right to health and dignity.

Address the link between cancer, women’s health, and climate change by advocating for policies that reduce environmental cancer risks, improving healthcare access in climate vulnerable communities, and raising awareness of climate change’s impact on women’s health
