DONATION TO CANCER PATIENTS THROUGH MALAWI NATIONAL CANCER CENTRE (MNCC) BY WOMEN’S COALITION AGAINST CANCER – (WOCACA) IN COLLABORATION WITH BRUSTKREBS DEUTSCHLAND e.V AND ABC GLOBAL ALLIANCE
Women’s Coalition Against Cancer in Malawi (WOCACA) as a member received a donation from ABC Global Alliance on behalf Brustkrebs Deutschland e.V. This is also in complementing WOCACA’s objectives of supporting and caring for cancer patients.
This donation is part of an ABC Global project that is looking at helping patients to keep them living a life with dignity despite the physical side effects and symptoms of their cancers.
This summary report highlights WOCACA presentation of the donations to cancer women patients through the National Cancer Centre situated at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Malawi. Although Covid-19 is still a major challenge with government restrictions as part of preventive measures, the event was managed to take place through following COVID-19 preventative measures.
The presentation was graced by 22 women cancer patients from rural communities but receiving treatment at Centre, the Director of National Cancer Centre and staff, WOCACA Executive Director and Staff, Malawi NCDs Alliance Malawi, members of the media and some KCH staff.
The donation presentation was combined with the commemoration of World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) which was held on the same day Friday 17th September, 2021. This spiced the event in sense that it gave more passion on the need of supporting and caring for patients. This also was an opportunity to hear lived experiences of women cancer patients whom mostly are poor and live a struggling life.
Taking from their lived experiences shared the women do not mostly finish their treatment due to economic hardship in terms of failing to access treatment because long distance. This is one of the big challenges among other numerous ones they face.
